Sparring, Chi Sau & Application
Chi Sau is a training exercise unique to the Wing Chun system. It builds reflexes, sensitivity and fighting skills.
Chi Sau is a bridge between the forms and actual fighting. Allowing the student to aquire close combat reflexes and skills. After a student has reached a certain level of proficiency in Chi Sau they may participate in sparring. A dedicated student can get to this point after a year to a year and a half.
Sparring is not a requirement but is highly encouraged. Working with partners is always done in a safe way. Students use appropriate protective gear when sparring.
While techniques should be applied skillfully and at speed, this can be done without injuring your training partner. Cultivating the appropriate control for this comes from proper Chi Sau practice.
We believe in pressure testing skills, it's the only way to ensure what you're doing actually works and is useful. While we do not mix in techniques from other arts we encourage practice with martial artists of other styles.
